From records available, it is evident that tennis is being
played at the Cubbon Courts over last
55 years under the aegis of
the then existing Bangalore Tennis Club.
• During the period 1950 - 1970, besides four/five
tennis courts also had a building housing
the Club House in the land leased
to erstrwhile Bangalore Tennis Club.
• By mutual consent in the year 1971, the Bangalore
Tennis Club relinquished its rights to allow the Karnataka
Lawn Tennis Association to pursue its
objectives of building a permanent stadium.
• Accordingly by way of Govt. Order No. AF 108
AHI 71 dated 10 .12.1971 and Govt
Order No AAH 260 AHM 73 dated 24.08.1978
conferred the lease rights on Karnataka Lawn Tennis Association
along with the
permission to build the Stadium .
• Foundation stone for the stadium was laid
in Jan 1972 by the then Government Shri Dharm Veera
and the stadium was inaugurated
in Nov 1976 by Shri Devaraj Urs, the then Chief Minister
of Karnataka.
• During this era, tennis was actively
patronized the cubbon courts, with international Davis Cup
match between India &
Australia being held twice in 1967 and 1970.
2. BASIC ACTIVITIES (1976-1985)
With the newly created facilities/stadium first of its
kind in Southern India, the KSLTA during the period, could
bring considerable pride and reputation to Bangalore as
one of the Major Tennis Center in the Country. On the
account of the enhanced facilities Bangalore was conferred
the privilege to stage the following World Tennis
Events:
- First Grand Prix Tournament in India
- Sweden Vs India Davis Cup
- Satellite Tournaments under the
aegis of International Tennis Federation
- Conducting Coaching/Training/Competition
amongst children of all age groups was ongoing exercise
through.

TENNIS IN THE MILLENIUM
"Vision 2000" propounded
by our president, envisaged -
- Putting Bangalore on the World Tennis Map,
like Melbourne, Paris, London
and New York, by staging minimum
three International level Tennis professional Tournaments.
- Creating Awareness/interest amongst larger
number of people across all age groups and at school/district
level (In fact Tennis is our game played as much
as by the old as by the youngsters).
- Providing continuous training and development
to beginners, mid groups and advanced levels.
